The White Album has got to be the best of The Beatles! Some of my favorite songs are Sexy Sadie and While My Guitar Gently Weeps. I think the songs really represent the times and things taking place in their lives. When I listen to their music, I can understand the way they are feeling and the things they're going through. It must been so difficult for them growing up in that kind of world, and I greatly respect them for sticking together and being so brave.

A true masterpiece, one of the greatest achievements of the human mind. Beautiful, stunning. Some songs are so great, and....well I don't know the words. Happiness is a Warm Gun has to be one of the greatest songs ever written. Bungalow Bill is so incredibly POWERFUL. Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for me and my Monkey is one of the catchiest and most haunting tunes written. Long Long Long is the greatest ode to beauty and love I have ever heard. Such a great album.

What do you want? A love song ("I Will")? A Rock song ("Birthday" "Back in the USSR" "Helter Skelter" etc.) This album has it all. This album has so emotion and talent in it. It is one of the,if not the most, amazing albums ever.

The white album is the best album the beatles ever made. It came at the time when it was time for the phsychedelic bullshit to go and the beatles get back to their roots. As early as March 1968 the beatles were doing this, on the on the heels of Bob Dylan who shocked the world with his as far away from phsycedilia album John Wesley Harding. The white album offers a song for whatever mood you are in, if you are in a mellow mood you got blackbird, long long long, mother natures son if you are in a hardcore rough mood you got helter skelter, back in the ussr everybodys got something..... and if you are in the mood for a plain great song any other song on the album will do. This album to me is to the beatles as Exile on Main Street was to the rolling stones, masterpeice.

I feel half the stuff on this album is good, some great, but the other half is absolute crap. It has to be one of the most diverse albums ever made, but in my opinon, due to all the "Revolution 9 songs" on the album, it is not one of the greatest, of the Beatles in anyway. I feel this album was the breaking point of a new era for the beatles, after the Sgt.Peppers-Magical Mystery Tour era. Its songs are like Abbey Road, which I don't really care for.

George Martin wanted The White Album to be a single LP containing the more conventional songs, but Lennon insisted on presenting the complete picture. And thank God for it. To quote Lennon, the Pepper myth may be bigger, but the music on The White Album is far superior. The White Album presents The Beatles at the heights of their individual creative powers. And that is what makes the album such a sad, albeit brilliant, one. John excels with the heart-churning Yer Blues, as also with Happiness is a Warm Gun and the sentimental Julia. Paul takes a break from his ballads to record Helter Skelter, which apparently inspired the Charles Manson murders. Although George's While My Guitar is one of my favourite Harrisons, it reveals very little of the Indian experience. Ringo's maiden attempt at song-writing is not bad. All in all, The White Album is highly recommended to people who seem to think that The Beatles are good only for woo-woo and yeh-yeh-yeh songs.

I bought my first copy of The White Album in 1976, and I haven't stopped liking it since. The songs still sound fresh after 30 years, and I can still imagine the Fab Four playing these songs on stage at a small London theater. The album shows the Beatles at their individually creative best, with all conventions broken. It will always be my favorite.

The first and last double album by the Beatles is definitely one of the greatest albums of all time. Back In The USSR is a good rocker that makes fun of the Beach Boys. An excellent idea. It is followed by Dear Prudence, one of John's best songs. The jet sounds at the beginning are unfortunate and perhaps contribute to the lack of popularity. Glass Onion has John making references to other Beatles songs, although we know that he is the walrus, not Paul. Ob-la-di Ob-la-da is probably Paul's best song on the album. John's criticism is unfair. Wild Honey Pie is strange but becomes more tolerable after multiple hearings of it. Bungalow Bill starts with an interesting Spanish guitar solo, and is followed by a good sing-a-long and Bowie-esque sounding verses. While My Guitar Gently Weeps is highly overrated. It does not rank in even the top ten of George's songs. He even forgets the words for a verse. Happiness is a Warm Gun starts off as almost alternative before changing into a 50's style song. Martha My Dear is a great Paul song and deserves to be played on the radio more. I'm So Tired poses a few questions. One: What is a "stupid get"? 2: What does John mumble at the end of it? Another cigarette will not help John get to sleep. Blackbird is a solo Paul song with help from an uncredited bird. Piggies is George's best song on the 'Bum. Who are the other vocalists that backup George on the final verse? (Shame on George for swearing!) Rocky Racoon is a western-type song complete with harmonica and honky-tonk piano. Followed by Ringo's first song, Don't Pass Me By. A very simple structure (I,IV,V for you Music Theory students) but quite enjoyable, especially with the solo viola. Why Don't we do it in the road? is Paul's worst song on the 'Bum. Fortunately, it is followed by one of his best, I Will, which features a scat bass and Paul singing duets with himself (It sounds nothing like I'll Follow the Sun!). Julia is the only song that John recorded alone while with the Beatles, and it is clear that he should have done it more often. Disc 2 declines in quality a bit, but still offers good songs. Birthday lets some of the Beatles' wives sing along. Yer Blues is a bit overrated, "sounds the same" blues song. Question: Is the final verse intending to have John sound far away or did George Martin fall asleep? Mother Nature's Son is alright, but like While My Guitar gently weeps, the title does not quite fit. Everybody's...Monkey is another good rocker with a quick bass solo at the end. Sexy Sadie is John's worst on the 'Bum. Goes on too long and doesn't mean anything. Helter Skelter would fit in with today's popular music. Ringo uncharacteristically screams out at the end, after a fade out-fade in which is far more effective than the one on Strawberry Fields Forever. Long, long, long is a interesting change of pace and foreshadows George's future religious songs. An interesting ending. Revolution 1 is a slower paced version of the single but is better because of the more "Don't you know it's gonna be"'s. Honey Pie effectively simulates a 20's song with Paul's voice heard on a record at the beginnning and some good clarinet parts. Savoy Truffle is a good George rocker. Includes a couple of 7/8 bars. Cry Baby Cry is another bad John song but is helped out by Paul's little solo after it is over. Some voices are heard, (I swear someone says at the end very "under the breath": Son of a b....) Revolution 9 is also underrated and is very interesting to listen to. The best part is the Beatles sayings on it. "What is the situation?" "They are standing still." "Financial imbalance. The Watusi. The Twist." "Take this brother, may it serve you well." "Block that kick! Block that kick!" It is followed by the best final song on a Beatles album: Goodnight. Ringo shows he can sing the nicer songs instead of just rock and roll. The last note should be held longer. A great double. Despite John's decrease in quality songs toward the end, a double album was definitely not a mistake.

To:MC I am a 15 year old.yours? This is my second fave Beatle's album, next to Abbey Road. Back in the USSR does remind me a lot of the Beach Boys, Dear Prudence is a great song one of my faves. Glass Onion is a good song because it talks about all the other Beatle's songs, but I don't really like the song that much. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, is an OK song but it gets too much air time. Wild Honey Pie is short but sweet, I like it. The Countng Story of Bungalow Bill is alright buy I don't love it all that much, Yoko doesn't do anything good for that song. While my Guitar Gently Weeps I don't like it that much. You are the first person I have talked to that doesn't think it the best thing since sliced bread, it isn't that good. The words don't go with the song. Who cares if the floor needs sweeping? Happiness is a Warm Gun is my second fave John song. I really like this song and all the different parts in it. Martha my Dear, is a good songs I like it. I'm so Tired, is a good song. One of John's better. Blackbird is my fave Paul song on this album, I love the guitar. I don't like Piggies at all, I am not really a huge George fan. I really like Rocky Raccoon, it is my second fave Paul song. I don't really like country music so this is weird for me. I don't really like Don't Pass Me By, it just doesn't do it for me. I like Why Don't We Do It in the Road, but the next song Julia is my fave song on this album. It is so sweet. John's mom would be very proud. I don't really like Birthday. Some days it is OK and I really like it, but most days I don't want to listen to it.. At first I really hated Yer Blues, I wouldn't even listen to the song. But it has grown on me and I like it. Mother Nature's Son is a tie with Blackbird for my fave Paul song. Everybody's Got Something to hide Except for me and my Monkey, is an OK dependes on my mood, same with Sexy Sadie. I used to LOVE Helter Skelter, but now I don't know. I still like the song but not as much. I don't really like Long, long, long, it makes me sad. I hate Revolution, at least this version, it is my least fave song on the album. Honey pie is a good song, but it has to grow on you. I don't like Savoy Truffle, I don't now why. I really like Cry Baby Cry, you are right about the end. I don't really like Reolution 9 unless I am in the mood. Good Night is a good song. John wrote it for Julian so why is Ringo singing it? This is a great album! E-mail soon.

I think "stupid get" is "stupid git". A git is a fool, contemptible person or b*stard. I can't work out what John mumbled at the end of the song.

The White Album. What a great collection of songs. Some are good; some are bad. Some are decent; some are great. There's really no way to describe the White Album without going into detail about every song. In general, the album reflects a very creative, individual, emotional time in the Beatles career. It is one of the best music collections, in itself, that you'll ever own. I highly recommend it for anyone. You don't even have to let it spin all the way through. Pick a track; put the CD player on random. The White Album will be great no matter how it is presented.

I'm sorry, but I have to add this. I don't like to comment on other people's reviews in my own, but since The Mad Capellan didn't include his email address, I'm going to have to post this. "Sexy Sadie" might acquire a little more meaning for you if you understood that the original title was "Maharishi." I'm not trying to show you up, so please don't be offended, but I like "Sexy Sadie" so much that I had to defend it. Email me if you want to talk Beatles some time. I'd love to have someone to talk to (or email to) that loves the Beatles as much as I do. Thanks.

The White Album is the most eclectic album by the Beatles. It is not considered by most to be the best because 1) It is less polished, 2) It contains less of the band together, and 3) It is too long. Let's look at these three complaints for just a second. The first is a valid complaint. On Honey Pie, for instance, Paul is singing alone and dubbing all the other voices and instruments. Whenever he did songs in this manner, it was usually when the other Beatles were away, and he usually did it quick, not caring to polish it up. On other tracks, it is supposed to have that "spontaneous, campfire sing-a-long" feel. (Bungalow Bill and Rocky Raccoon come to mind.) On the second complaint, all that can be said is that during this time the Beatles were getting sick of one another. You have to keep in mind that the Beatles had been together 8 years at this time. So what if Paul sung alone on most of his tracks? They are brilliant in that manner. Blackbird? One of his best. Mother Nature's Son as a duet or with a backing band? No way! Doesn't sound right. The album gives the listener more choices than any other. Want John just by himself? Listen to Julia. Country and Western? Don't Pass Me By. Heavy metal rock? Helter Skelter. The list goes on and on... Too long. Well, most of that is the result of Revolution No. 9. (I won't review that sound collage here, it would take too long). George Martin wanted them to whittle it down to the best songs. But which one's are best? Which are worst? Very hard to decide without omitting one of the four Beatles' contributions. And taking songs from the White Album reduces its overall diversity. P.S.--At the end of I'm So Tired, John mumbles "Monsiuer, monsiuer, may I have another one?"

I know who Sexy Sadie was written about. I still don't like it. The tune is catchy, but I just don't like the subject. I realize I'm probably the only to think this, but John's songs were not quite up to par. I'm not trying to say that I could do better, but his songs appear to be on a decline which continues throughout his solo career (although he did have his hits). I think John's solo career was the least impressive of the four Beatles. He fell back to the traditional rock and roll (styles that bore me), and only told about his life, stories which we already know. It's too bad he couldn't stick around so he could have gotten better and maybe saved the 80's (well, one can dream). No offense taken (that is of course, if you don't mind me ripping you in other reviews).

Having read some of the reviews on the Beatles Albums, I think some of your contributors talk a load of tosh. Having grown up in the Beatles time frame I can honestly say that there isn't a "poor" track on any of their albums, just some are greater than others. They are indisputably the finest influences in music in the 20th century. When you listen to the latter day efforts of "Wanabe" Beatles, I feel priviledged to have lived through the real thing. Regards to all true fans.

ok, this is to all of u "wanna be beatles experts. song 1 "back in the ussr": great rendition of the beach boys. pauls musical talents really shine through. although sometimes his light hearted songs such as "honey pie" and "i will" make u wanna vomit, "back in the ussr" is a little heavier and matches up to johns heavier stronger music. song 2 "dear prudence": personally i dont usually listen to this song, but i must say, it helps to calm me down after a long day. john lets his softer side show on this song, and it is pleasing to the ear. by the way, for all of you know nothing beatle fans it is about mia farrows sister. song 3: "glass onion": great reference to magical mystery tour! it further confuses everyone about the paul is dead theory by stating paul as the walrus. song 4 "ob-la-di, ob-la-da": ok song. its cool the first few times, but again, it has the beat of a preschool sing along song. i like the way the beatles covered up by saying desmond was a transvestite. but i only listen to this song when i am in a very light hearted mood. song 5 "wild honey pie": fun song, makes u laugh. song 6 "bungalo bill": mistake letting yoko sing on it. she didnt deserve it. she has the musical talent of a house plant. but the song is a good mockery of the american steriotype. song 7 "while my...": georges second best to blue jay way. i think that having eric clapton play was a good idea, but i think george could have done it himself. his guitar ability is show on the "let it be track" during his solo. george was very very underated... he is just as good if not better than paul in the rock and roll department. 8 "happiness..." classic late sixties rock. matches up to todays standards. john makes the transition from the timid opening of the song to the hard core ending beautifly. 9 "martha my dear": paul makes himself look foolish with this crap. it is too slow for me, especially compared to johns stuff such as "everybody's got something...". paul is very talented, its just that his slower stuff doesnt do anything for me. by the way this song was about his dog. 10 "blackbird": good work on the acustic guitar, but it is too slow for me, but it does sound nice. 11 "piggies": great way of making fun of the greed in the upper class. it gives u the visual picture of the snobs of the world. i live in north dartmouth mass, and this reminds me of the snobs who live in padanarum village. they are "piggies"! and if n e one wants to argue that they can. 12 "rockey racoon": great classic western story. perfectly conducted. one of pauls best. 13 "dont pass me by": good effort by ringo. it reminds me of square dancing, but i like it. its a fun song. the fiddles add a nice country sound to it. 14"why dont we do it in the road": pauls mockery of john's style of writing. i love it, it has a great hard sound to it. very clever. paul is a very talented artist. 15 "i will": a very slow song, i never ever listen to it. 16 "julia": a nice tribute to johns son, it is slow, but how can u write a fast hard song about a little boy?

17 "birthday": fun song. a nice way to make patty harrison feel good on her birthday. no real song talent in this song. it was written and finished in one day for crying out loud! 18 "yer blues": johns second best on the album! great blues rendition! it was made in a small room, u can really hear the bealtes playing together, even though the white album was the beginning of the breakup. the song really picks up after john sings "even hate my rock and roll" and the solos begin. 19 "mother natures son": another one of pauls throw away songs. not worth mentioning. 20 "everybody..." johns best on the album. very modern, very fast, classic john. some serious undermeaning in the song though. if u dont know what i mean then u are stupid. and it has nothing to do with sex. 21 "sexy sadie": the untuned paino makes the song. it is a great slow song by john. much deeper than the slow songs paul wrote. it is all johns resentment of maharushi. exellent piece, but it takes time to get used to. 22 "helter skelter": pauls best as a beatle. most modern song the beatles wrote. very heavy! has nothing to do with charles manson. it is so heavy and dirty sounding. all teenagers that i know who listen to it love it. the fading at the end is great along with ringo screaming out. perfect song! 23 "long long long": not one of johns better songs. he himself later called it a piece of garbage. i didnt take much talent to write this shitty song. 24 "revolution 1": not nearly as good as the "revolution" single, but it is great in its own way. john knew exactly how to say what was wrong with the world at the time. 25 "honey pie": yet another throw away by paul. 26 "savory truffle": georges talent shines through. very good song with its muffled drums. ringo does a great job with it, just like he did on strawberry fields. fun song. 27 "cry baby cry": the only cool thing is at the end when john says "bitch" it is very hard to hear. 28 "revolution 9": what the hell was that? all yoko! john was obviously not thinking, he was just in love. but somehow it fits with the album. 29 "good night": very corney and not worth wasting time with.

i just want to say that even though i dont like pauls stuff as much as johns on this album, i do think he is a musical genious. thank you...

"The Beatles" a.k.a. The White Album is not only an exceptional pice of music magic, it is by far in my opinion, the greatest album ever made!

There is not one song that I feel should have been changed, deleted, altered or otherwised transformed. It shows the Beatles at their best, when tensions seemed at there worst.

The packaging, concept and overall existence of this album, has, probably unintentionally paved the way for artists to come. In many ways it portray, country, rock, vaudville, avant-garde, pop, and yes even rap.

"Yer Blues" is my favorite song, yet every song holds it's own place in my heart.

When I first discovered the Beatles, I was 15 (1986)... I was already intrigued by most of the Beatles early music. But then I discovered "The White Album". I would set my alarm for 3:00 am, every morning, switch on my turntable, and listen with headphones blaring, the entire two album set. I know every noise, pop, backward masking, hard rockin', soft spoken word, sound, etc escapes from the vinyl.

The Beatles truly were real geniuses.

And as I close the long winded review I must say... "can you take me back where I came from, can you take me back..." - "Cry Baby Bary" 1968

John Lennon was quoted as saying that this album is more like a series of solo tracks simply compiled into a "Beatles" record. This is largely true, as McCartney is truly solo on "Why Don't we do it in the Road", to the extent that he even drums on it! He is also alone on "I Will" and "Mother Nature's Son", although some very minor contributions from the others could have been included (I don't think so). I have read that two seperate studios were often operating simultaneously with McCartney in one and Lennon in the other. Naturally, the full band plays on the majority of the tracks, but the overwhelming impression is a non-collaborative list of tracks (with the exception of "Birthday" which I believe is the only true Lennon/McCartney song on the record.) Certainly Lennon resembles his naked primal state on his "Plastic Ono Band" solo record, screetching out his pain in "Yer Blues", stripping back any pretension in the ode to his mother on "Julia" ("Mother" part one?), or simply projecting his gut wrenching rock presence on "Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for me and my Monkey". Of course the musical legacies of "Strawberry Fields" and "Walrus" are still present in the amazing medly that is "Happiness is a Warm Gun", or "Bungalow Bill". Most interestingly, this album twists and turns from the exhausted despair of "I'm So Tired", to the menacing nursery rhyme, "Piggies", to the genuinely beautiful "Dear Prudence", "Julia", "Long Long Long", to the fun rollicking "Back in the USSR", "Birthday", and "Rocky Racoon". Naturally John should have saved his "Revolution 9" for the "Two Virgins" record, McCartney should have stuck to singing "Obli Di Obla Da" to the inhabbitants of a London pre-school, and Ringo should have just not fronted up for "Goodnight" and "Don't Pass me by". Duds aside, songwriting alienation aside and overall length aside, this album is up there with "Revolver" as a Beatles high water mark. Compare it to the patchy "Let it Be" or the (mostly) sacharine "Abey Road" ("I Want You" and "Come Together" major exceptions!) Please respond to this review if you disagree as I'd be very interested to here a more negetive opinion of the record.

David is, of course, correct in pointing out the ascerbic, sardonic and always brutally honest characteristics of Lennon on this album, although I can hardly justify raising a finger to program the tracks "I Will", "Obli Di Obla Da", "Martha My Dear", "Honey Pie" or "Wild Honey Pie" on my C.D player. McCartney's melt-in-your-mouth like honey past its expiry date brand of "pop" on this album is a waste of the precious C.D presser's time and resourses. I admit, the man can play bass, and this he should be confined to on the album, by force if neccessary. "Helter Skelter" is an exception, although the MIDI version is much, much harsher on the ears. McCartney's contributions have never raised anything in me other than a fist to the higher forces that ever made Lennon lose interest in the Beatles and hand the reigns of his wild horse to McCartney, who swiftly swapped that wild horse for a leper pony who could only malignantly trot along to the tune of "Maxwell's Silver Hammer". I know there are people out there who disagree with me, and this is merely my own view. I am not God. But if I was, there would have been a clone of John Lennon in the Beatles alongside the original and McCartney would have been the EMI lavatory unpluggerer.

While I DO agree with most of what David has said in the above review, mistakenly using my name & email instead of his, I would like to point out that I can't really listen to even "Helter Skelter" without experiencing a sizeable cringe. You see it's all a matter of conditioning. I've heard that voice sing with too much clinical precision on too many tracks to not hear in even this rocker a hint of the anally retentive. It seems that here McCartney is aiming to out-guts Lennon, and while musically this comes closer than anything else he penned, for me Lennon's was the voice that rose screaming from the gutter to scrape the souls of the sane into an unfriendly territory where out and out rock met real emotion and personal experience, on a track like "Everybody's got something to hide" this shows.

To know what a stupid get is, you have to be Lancatilian, ;). It's a slang for the bl**dy get..or, the early time in the morn you absolutely hate to get up in..the time when you feel you were cheated of the night, there isn't enough night to begin with, and that you must struggle to wake up..until you hit a cold shower.

This is probably one of my all time favorite albums. It has such a wide variety of style. From sweet (I Will) to wild (Helter Skelter) to even bizzare (Revolution 9). I love every single song on the album and I encourage everyone Beatle lover or not to listen to it. One of my favorite songs is Sexy Sadie. I think this whole album is completely brilliant and it's one of the Beatles best works. I think they are the best band and without their influence we would not have many of the bands today.

I was reading through all the talk, and saw a few comments on Back in the USSR resembling a the Beach Boys... here's what I know

When the Beatles were in India, one of the Beach Boys was there. He somehow inspired Paul, who then wanted to write a song similar to that of the boys. I'm not sure if the guy in the beach boys "helped" him or not, but that's what i know.

does anyone know of the connection between the drum solo on abbey road and an iron butterfly song? I heard them both and they are quite similar. Did the Beatles rip iron butterfly off!?! I was told that and absolutely IN SHAMBLES after hearing that the lovelies may have stolen something.

The white album is one of my favourite albums of all time. None of the songs has the brilliance of, to name a few, Strawberry Fields Forever, I'm the Walrus, A day in the life or even The fool on the hill, Penny lane and All you need is love, all recorded in 1967, but there at least 20 great tracks on it. The reason why most people think it should have been a single Lp and no double lp, has to be that most people are not so open-minded as the beatles themselves. Forgive these people. song 1: back in the ussr: great berry/beach boys-pastiche. 2. dear prudence: one of the outstanding tracks on the white album 3. glass onion: underrated. Just for the more musical people: what do you think of the chord progession: am-gm7? great, don't you think? 4. ob-la-di, ob-la-da overrated song. I prefer the Anthology 3 version. 5. wild honey pie funny song, one of Paul's most Lennonesquees songs. 6.bungalow bill good song, nice spanish guitar intro played by john 7.While my guitar gently weeps. fine song the second best of the white album, in my humble opinion. Why is this not a good song, as some of you folks write? 8. happiness is a warm gun. the best track on the album. I like every part on the song, especially the first part and John's voice at the end, with the great bangbangshootshopot- harmonies. 9. martha my dear. i used to dislike it, but i confess it is a good song. 10. I'm so tired. this song lacks something. It really has the potential to be a beatles classic, but now it's " just" a fine song. monsieur, monsieur how about another one? or paul is dead man, miss him, miss him? I don't know. 11. blackbird, a bit overrated, but it is a great song. nice guitar playing by a bass player. 12. piggies. good song, although everyone seems to hate it. 13. rocky raccoon. Paul showing his ability to write and play songs with a diversity no one else, except John possesed. 14. don't pass me by. Ringo shows why he never writes songs. Sorry ritchie. 15. why don't we do it in the road? great rocker. very energetic. 16. I will nice ballad, a bit too soft, a bit too much of a silly love song. 17. Julia, moving ballad by John. great guitar work. disc 2. can't cope with the first, but still great. 18. birthday. throwaway rocker, but not a bad one. 19. yer blues. One of my favourite beatle-rockers. recorded in a very little room, sung with much intensity by John. Someone asked if George Martin was sleeping at the end of song, because John's voice is hardly audible, but I know it's deliberate. It's a great effect, it enhanches the song. 20.mother nature's song. John wrote child of nature (jealous guy) when he visited the maharishi, Paul came up with mother nature's son. Paul 's one can't compare with John's but is a great track, although the Anthology version of MNS is even better than the released version. 21. everybody...(etc) The Beatles as the rolling stones. 22. sexy sadie. Why is everyone slagging of this song? It's one of the better songs on the White Album and at least it inspired radiohead by the making of their best song: Karma Police. 23.Helter Skelter. I've got blisters on my fingers! Who said the Beatles couldn't rock. 24. long, long, long. nice song, inspired by Bob Dylan. 25. Revolution. I used to prefer this version, but now I prefer the single version it rocks better. But this song is truly one of the best on the album. Sung by John while he was lying on the floor. 26. Honey pie. One of the weakest songs, not bad, not great. 27. savoy truffle. Not George's greatest composition, but it's very well played. Enjoy it. 28. Cry Baby Cry. nice song, nice. 29. revolution 9. it starts with a great piece of Paul: after cry baby cry. But for me revolution nr 9 is all too much. I can't listen to it. 30. goodnight. written by john and sung by Ringo. A bit soft, but a good song when you can't sleep. A great album, by the Greatest Artists Ever.

Yes, this is an amazing album. For all you close-minded fools out there who attack Paul's songs, you are dumb. Rocky Raccoon, I will, Helter Skelter, Honey Pie, etc. are all extremely good songs and anyone who can simultaneously trash all of them is doing so only because "as everyone knows, John is brilliant and Paul is a moron". Wrong. You only need to listen to some of John's solo work (don't get me wrong, they are good just often not as good as Beatles stuff) to know this.

Still, I shouldn't rant because John and George also have some exceptional work on the album whether it be Sexy Sadie, Happiness is a Warm Gun (wow), While My Guitar Gently Weeps, or the far underrated Savoy Truffle. I don't like Don't Pass Me By but Ringo did put forth a fine effort on Good Night.

Finally, almost as dumb as people who abuse Paul songs because they are Paul songs are people who trash the early Beatles stuff. The White Album is good but I don't listen to it any more than Revolver or even Please Please Me. The Beatles did not do anything bad. period. When rushed, as in Let it Be or Beatles for Sale, they occasionally put out work that is not consistently amazing, but there are still always great songs in there (Eight Days a Week, Every Little Thing, I Me Mine and of course Let it Be) come to mind. You don't agree? Maybe you should, for the first time in years, listen to an early song or a Paul song with an open mind. You may be surprised.

Every Beatle freak knows -- knows -- this is the greatest Beatles album. Nearly every song on this album is better than the songs on Pepper.

Lennon's are among his best: Happiness is a Warm Gun, I'm so Tired and Dear Prudence are classics.

Paul shines with his sweet melodies like I Will, Martha My Dear and Mother Nature's Son.

George's Guitar Weeps is one of his best songs.

This album soars because it is so eclectic. Forget the talk of cutting it to two sides. This is their finest hour.

This album does present some of the Beatles' best work, but it also presents some of their worst. A lot of Paul's songs have absolutely no redeeming value whatsoever. This should be blatantly obvious to anyone who listens to Martha My Dear or Honey Pie. They're nice for showtunes, Paul, but what the hell are they doing on a rock album? Paul redeems himself with Back In The USSR, Why Don't We Do It In The Road, and Blackbird though. John's worst song is Revolution 1, mainly because it is so inferior compared to the single version. Overall, John's songs are pretty good on this album. Ringo's solo composition, Don't Pass Me By, is below average. The song has a very basic chord structure and the music is played as if the Beatles are bored. Ringo himself sounds tired of this song. Ringo redeems himself by singing the beautiful Good Night ballad by John at the end of the album. The one advantage that George has over John and Paul in this album is that all of his four songs are good. While My Guitar Gently Weeps and Savoy Truffle are great rock numbers, Long Long Long is a nice love ballad, and Piggies is a hysterically dark nursery tune. George by far outdoes John and Paul on this album in terms of quality of his own songs. George Martin knew that if the Beatles did this double album, the good stuff (Back In The USSR, Blackbird, Julia, While My Guitar Gently Weeps) would be countered by the bad stuff (Martha My Dear, Honey Pie, Don't Pass Me By, Revolution 1). Despite this ratio, the white album is a great buy.

I only acquired this fabled album recently. I suppose I baulked at shelling out in excess of 20 quid for "an old record" for a long time, especially when i was familar with 'only' about 10-15 of them. But, Christ, it's a hot one. There's a few fillers in there but I can't think of a more merited purchase for the value-for-money record buyer. I wish I had bought it earlier. Umpteen times I picked it up but put it back down, keeping it on the long finger for when I had won some extra money on the horses. "Blackbird" is my favourite. Although our subject is "singing in the dead of night," the song is pure sunshine. Enjoy for a very, very long time.

Personaly, the white record is my favorite! Back in the u.s.s.r reminds me of an old Beach Boys hit, dear prudence is a song that John put a lot of hard meaning into about being left out ,Glass onion is a funny way for John to dis his own songs, obladi-oblada is one of paul's best songs to write.Don't know why it wasn't #1 lol. Wild Honey pie is a joke and paul's voice sounds ghastly. Bungalow Bill is a good mexican like song and even has a solo by a kid, while my gutar gently weeps is bizzare at the end with George's odd chants but I like the mood. Happienes is a warm gun makes the beatles sound like gun carrying thugs. whilest, martha my dear is a great song by paul about falling in love. I'm so tired is a dissapointment with a lot of nonsence.but paul takes up a relaxing song with blackbird and Piggies is a funny song by George.Rocky Raccon is a west side story like ballad. Don't pass me by was Ringo's best hit yet.Why Don't we do it in th road, despite the odd sounding paul again and the talk of sex, the tune is catchy. I will is a masterpiece of songwriting by Paul, and Julia is a sad song about John's Lost Mom.

I defy anyone to name a better, more varied Beatles' album. The White Album runs the full spectrum of pop, from the plaintive cries of "Yer Blues" and "Helter Skelter" to the beautiful "Julia."

Pain produces the best art, and clearly this was the Beatles' psycho-torture album.

It also showcases their individuals talents and interests, making it the most honest Beatles' work.

Consider the songs. Each one personifies the writer, John's "Happiness is a Warm Gun," Paul's "I Will," George's "Piggies" and Ringo's "Don't Pass Me By."

"whitey" is probably the best album (beatles or otherwise)in the history of mankind. the songs don't seem to fit together, but there could be none better or more diverse. long, long, long is the most underrated, because the vocals are soft. other than the appearance of Yoko on a few tracks, it's an experiance unto itself. blackbird is a great acoustic guitar song, if thats your thing; also the earliest of edgier rock with helter skelter, definitely not a song to go to sleep to.

Well, I know everyone says the white album is the best Beatles album. Well... I beg to differ. First of all, I don't think it was really a "beatles" album. It sounded more like a whole bunch of solos. But don't get me wrong, I love the songs. There are some pretty good ones on it. It was VERY impressive that every song on it was written by them. Of course it's no surprise, John, Paul, and George being the songwriters they were. And were they ever. Still, I don't think it was really a group effort. I'm not knocking it, or putting it down, I love the songs... I just feel the need to press that matter.

Just a few more thing's that I forgot about. Damn the jetlag. Okay, maybe alot of things, so here I go. I AM a huge Beatles fan. I have been since I was about four. One of the best songs on the album has to be, "Back in the USSR" it changes just enough from the rest of the songs on the album, and still has most of The Beatles singing on it. "While my Guitar Gently Weeps" is an excellent song. It's a demonstration of George's songwriting abilities. I just don't understand why he didn't have more songs on the LPs. There was his earlier song, "Don't bother Me" which he described as "Crappy" and "Easily forgettable" I hardly tend to agree. Revolution 1, and Revolution 9 were pretty good songs. I've listened to Revolution 9 backwards. Anybody who's heard it would be able to tell you that it was meant to be listened to in both directions, as all throughout the backwards version, you can hear many forward sound effects, such as: Somebody playing the piano, A chorus, Crashes, screaming, and of course "turn me on dead man" And of course only George could get away with writing about a truffle. Awesome song. "Helter Skelter" well, I still I can't figure out that song. At all. But then again I'm not to good at disciphering lyrics. Expecially ones written by John and Paul. There, I got it all out. See? I like them!!

I am so slow and behind my musical friends who have every record ever made and can play hundreds of songs, and are amazed when I hadn't heard something. They are suprised when I haven't heard the "White Album" in it's entirety. But I haven't, I am 23, and I just recently bought it. I am very impressed and happy with this record. It just gives me more of what I loved. I used to tape Beatles radio shows showcasing their music, and I would make most of my compilations. My favorites weren't their in and out big rock hits like "Back in the U.S.S.R.", or "Birthday", which are wonderful, but there's a lot of beautiful tracks that are just so emotional and subtle it's awesome. Martha My Dear, great piano, it's so sweet, BlackBird, Dear Prudence and Glass Onion. It almost seems like one of the strangest configurations of popular music I have heard yet on one of their records, but, it is, after all, the Beatles. I love singing along. BlackBird Fly. You were only waiting for this moment to arrive. Helter Skelter! Hah! What about "happiness is a Warm Gun?"That's beautiful for despair and suicidal folk. The Continuing Adventures of Bungalow Bill? Strange, but totally harmoniously cool.
