I haven't seen either tapes (since none likely exist :-) or transcripts of the Simon Dee show, where Jane made her announcement, but have seen a press quote of the "Dee Time" interview, where Jane says (paraphrasing) that they still loved each other but "it hasn't worked out". The news article made it clear (perhaps the reporter was clear!) that Jane had ended the relationship herself. Jane did say that maybe when they were both in their seventies they might meet again like old sweethearts, but time and the stability of their current relationships would suggest that's not a likely scenario. Jane has ever since refused to speak about her time with Paul, referring to him once as "just an old boyfriend". >I think Paul dumped her, although she said the words. No one can know absolutely, but it appears that in "Dee Time" she took responsibility for the end of their engagement. One might say that Paul was giving her none-too-subtle messages that their romance was over via his extracurricular relationships, but there's no indication that he "dumped" anyone, except indirectly. Less than a month before her appearance on "Dee Time" she was still in his company and presented as his fiancee. Unless you want to draw the analogy between this breakup and the sacking of Pete Best. The Beatles dumped Pete...but Brian said the words. Is that it? :-) -- "The darkest night would shine if you would come to me soon. Until you will be still my heart, how high the moon." ----------------------------------------------------------- saki@evolution.bchs.uh.edu * dlm3@midway.uchicago.edu
